Question: Contact lenses while dancing in humid climate?

I'm short-sighted (3.5D both eyes). I'm really uncomfortable with wearing glasses while dancing, but without them I can't see the mirror properly :( Therefore, I want to change to contact lenses (CL). The thing is, I live in humid climate area, and it's kind of dusty here. So, as I went to the optician, she nearly forbid me from buying it. She told me that playing sports, dancing etc. would make it more likely that dust gets into my eyes -> higher risk of infection, eye diseases... And, if I insisted on using contact lenses, I'll have to assume my own responsibility. That kind of scared me off; but I never heard that CL were unsuitable for sports. Also, the optician prevented me from buying without actually testing my eyes for sensitivity (she just checked my eyes as for normal glasses). Is it true then? Am I really forbidden to wear CL in this situation?

Please help me, as I hate glasses and I'm not able yet to have an eye surgery. Thanks in advance!

This seems very strange to me. I have worn contacts for over 40 years and as you say they are ideal for sports, dancing etc. Glasses just steam up and do other undesirable things. Now I live in the UK and we're not hot and dusty but I've been in many parts of the world that are and worn contacts in many situations , the desert, jungles, trekking etc without having this sort of issue. I also wear them for sports and anything outdoors. Dust was far more of a problem for hard contact lenses and that was the comfort rather than hygiene. You do have to be careful with contacts, washign your hands properly etc, but really if you follow the rules infection isnt' a problem. You also have the option of dailies which you can through out every day. I would suggest you go to another optician. some opticians are against contacts , although these days that is increasingly rare.

I am using contact lenses from long time but never ever I felt any problem. I always take a part in sports and games but never had I felt any problem. If you are feeling any problem from lens please make sure that you are using quality product.
