Am I considered asleep just because my eyes are closed?!

Question: Am I considered asleep just because my eyes are closed?
I've had a lot of troubles sleeping for about.. 8 months by now? And it's really bugging me. I go to bed at 3am and even until 7am I'm not asleep yet. I'm quite sure I was awake the whole time because I check the time every fifteen minutes and I go to the toilet as well. I just don't get that subconscious time lapse thing anymore. And it's really annoying as I still get tired despite being on the bed for eight hours. It's really bad and I really need help. Am I considered asleep even though I'm awake with my eyes closed on my bed? Any help would be really appreciated, my thanks in advance.

Although your body is getting the rest it needs, your mind is not. First of all you need to stop getting up and stop checking the clock. I'd recommend talking to your doctor about this issue. Lack of REM sleep can cause serious mental issues. It may be a matter of changing your schedule or your habits, it may be a matter of getting on some medication. There may be some underlying reason for your lack of sleep. Most people go through this once in a while, usually due to stress or something, but to deal with this on a regular basis is not good for you. Talk to your doctor. In the mean time, maybe try an over the counter sleep aid. Don't take more than suggested, it either will work or it won't but either way, talk to your doctor.

No you're not considered asleep if you have your eyes closed laying on the bed cause sleeping is mainly about resting your mind and you are using your mind by telling yourself to go to sleep and keep your eyes closed.

Nothing worse than insomnia and the more you worry about it the worse it seems to get. My husband is of the thought that you should just lie in bed regardless with your eyes shut even if your not asleep. I don't think i have ever known him not to be able to sleep, but not sure if its cos he's using this technique. I find that i need to get up and drink a warm milk or something, watch tv or read. If i feel its becoming too regular i try to run or do some type of aerobic exercise during the day. I have found this to help. But the main thing is mind over matter. Try not to focus or think about not sleeping.
