is my eyeglass prescription severe?!

Question: Is my eyeglass prescription severe?
I'm nearsighted and I'm -2.75. I'm 18, will my vision likely get worse by a lot or just by a little over time? My vision basically stabilized until I got a new computer and started going on it all the time, as using the computer so much made me more nearsighted by around -.5. I grew .5 in the last year because of my new computer and my addiction to it. NOw that I'll stop using the computer, will my vision likely get worse? Also, without my glasses, I can read a book but can't really use a computer unless I'm up close. At this prescritption, when I'm outside, it's kind of blurry without glasses but still good enough to see the general picture. A lot of detail is compromised though. So I just want to know is my vision seriously compromised at -2.75?

Answers:

Your vision isn't that bad, but it is bad enough that you shouldn't be driving without your glasses. I doubt your computer is to blame for your vision getting worse, had you not got a computer, your vision probably would be just the same. Some people use the computer all the time and never need glasses. Yes, you're right, without your glasses, it isn't like you can't see enough to navigate, or anything like that, but you lose a lot of the detail in the distance; reading street signs, recognizing friends, etc, becomes difficult.

You are far from having severe myopia.

At - 6.00 it is considered as the beginning of severe.

Your main growth is just about done at 18 , so you probably won't have too many big changes to come. The worst period is over. ( 12-16)

Only a 0.50 change in the last year is a good sign that it is already slowing down.

No. I'm a full point higher than that, and I don't wear glasses all the time

At age 18 I would not expect much change in the future.
