Is it normal to have slightly doubled vision when the eyes are wide open?!
Question: Is it normal to have slightly doubled vision when the eyes are wide open?
I saw an optometrist a few weeks ago, and he mentioned shortsightedness in right eye. Not present in left eye, and I am aware of this. He mentioned nothing else, so I am wondering if this is a normal vision thing?

The upper eyelid has no effect on your vision. The only part of the outside eye that lets light into the eye is the pupil.
However if someone is shortsighted, extra peripheral light will expose any flaws in their eyesight. If this is your situation then its likely you struggle to see clearly at night. This is because at night people ensure their eyes are fully open to maximize the amount of light enntering the eye. At the same time the pupils will be at their widest too.
There are different types of double vision. If you look through each eye with the other closed and pick up no double vision then its likely the issue lies with how effectively your eyeball can turn in every direction or a flaw in your brain's judgement in where the eyes should be pointing.
If this is something temporary I would suggest just taking life a bit more easily and avoid any unnecessary distraction. This would help your eyes to function more normally.
Slightly doubled vision is a sign you need some sort of eyesight correction. I have a prism in mine to corerct this, but other problems can give you shadowing. Are you going to get glasses? What perscription did he give you? This isnt' a thing you need to panic over but it needs sorted as its not normal.
