Going in for surgery in 2 hours... I'm so nervous... any ways to help panic!

Question: Going in for surgery in 2 hours... I'm so nervous... any ways to help panic attacks?
It's strabismus (eye) surgery... and the sad part about it is that it's my 6TH ONE!!! You'd think I'd be a pro by now! But I'm 31 and the other 5 surgeries were done between the ages of 5-months and 11-years of age, so it's been exactly 20 years since my last (5th) surgery.

Why am I so scared?

Answers:

Most of us have some trepidation prior to any surgery and you may be nervous about the outcome of this 6th surgery. You are also much older and wiser than when you had your last surgery, therefore you are more aware that there are inherent risks in any surgery. However, stabismus surgery is a fairly common surgical procedure and if you trust your surgeon, you should have no problems. Try thinking of something pleasant, like a recent vacation or a good time spent with family members to take your mind off the surgery. I also find deep breathing exercises help to relieve panic attacks. Take in a deep breath through your nose, hold for 10 second, then slowly release through your mouth. Repeat 10 times.

Hope this helped and I hope you have excellent results from this surgery. Best of Luck!

What pennybarr said is great.

I hope you get the best of results.

Good luck
