do walmart vision center eye doctors take your blood pressure?!

Question: Do walmart vision center eye doctors take your blood pressure?
Hi,

I was wondering if eye doctors at the walmart vision center take your blood pressure. Guess I was wondering if this is standard or not because I figured I could kill 2 birds with one stone. Is it common for eye doctors to take your bp?

I just woke up from a 2 hour nap and noticed my eye hurt. It feels like somethings in it and then I looked in the mirror and on the upper right corner of my iris on the outer edge there's a small white spot about the size of a grain of sugar.

I read bout corneal ulcers and it has me scared. It also is red around the white spot. Does this sound like the typical symptoms for a corneal ulcer? Thanks

In the definition of "standard of care" for any optometrist (no matter where they work), it is NOT standard of care to take your patient's blood pressure.

However, many optometrists DO take blood pressure because it is quick, easy, and helps to gauge your overall health. But it is not considered a required standard of care. Best thing would be to call the clinic you are going to and ask them if they take blood pressure. That will answer your question the best.

This does not sound like a corneal ulcer. Why? Because if it really was, I doubt you would be asking us on the computer and you would already have yourself to the ER. They are extremely extremely painful.

There are lots of things that can cause or be a "white spot" on your eye, but this mostly just sounds like you somehow got something in your eye while you were sleeping. I would get some over-the-counter lubricating artificial tears such as Blink, Refresh, Systane, or Optiv. Do NOT get Visine, as that will not help you. You can use the artificial tears as much as you want. If the pain or spot doesn't go away by tomorrow morning, then go see the eye doctor.

Plus, a corneal ulcer doesn't magically form during a 2 hour nap. You probably just got something in your eye - that's the only thing that could magically appear in 2 hours.

ADD:
It is standard of care for an eye doctor to take your intraocular pressure or IOP (that's the pressure inside your eye). So if you even have an eye exam and you do NOT get your eye pressure checked, I would recommend going to a new eye doctor because it is one of the key features of our standard of care.

Well if you are really worried about this spot, there is no sense complaining about it on Yahoo Answers because none of us can examine your eye and see 1) the location 2) how deep it is 3) how much redness there is and 4) other things affected.

If you are worried about the spot and if it is bothering you, go see an eye doctor right now or first thing in the morning. I can't tell you what it may be because there are too many possibilities without me actually seeing your eye.

I am an optometry intern.

Is it on the iris or on the cornea?

Eye doctors generally do not take Blood Pressure, but they do test your eye pressure. Walmart's probably has a BP machine you can use to test your Blood Pressure or may have a nurse or tech on duty to do it, since they are still giving out H1N1/Seasonal Flu combination shots. That's three birds you can kill with one stone.

Corneal ulcer is caused by many things including eye trauma, disease and infection. No way to tell what is wrong with your with eye. You could have gotten a foreign body in your eye, a scratched cornea or some other infection or inflammation. Yahoo answerers can only give best guesstimates, only an ophthalmologist or optometrist can give you a definitive diagnosis and treatment if needed. Prior to making that appointment at Walmart for your eye exam, make sure the optometrist is on duty. In the USA an optician is not licensed to diagnose or examine eyes.
