You can buy contact lenses online if you choose not to buy your year-supply of lenses from your eye doctor. But yes, you do need to have a valid contact lens prescription from an eye doctor for a particular brand and type and size of contact lens. Many websites actually will contact your doctor when you place an order to verify that the prescription is correct and valid.

The contact lenses may be cheaper in price online (not always ... sometimes your eye doctor actually gives them to you cheaper) but there is no difference in quality because you must order the exact same contact lenses online that your prescription says. So it is the exact same contact lens anyway - you are just getting them from a different source.

Some people like buying them online ... some people like buying them from their doctor.

But it is the same contact lens no matter what, and you still need a yearly contact lens evaluation or fitting no matter what.

Yeah you can order contact lenses online, the place where you order them will either fax or call the optical to verify a customers prescription it they ok they will order the contacts for the customer, if the prescription is expired then they wont process the order. So you still need to prescription to get contacts.
