Why does my eyesight continue to get worse?!

Question: Why does my eyesight continue to get worse?
I am almost 22 years old. I have been wearing glasses since I was eight years old. I have nearsightedness and astigmatism. Last time I went to the eye doctor (in March) it had only been six months since my last check up and my vision got worse and I needed a new prescription. The eye doctor informed me that I had what he called a bilateral astigmatism which I think means that my eyes are misshapen in both directions. Now only less than nine months later it seems I need a new prescription once again. Will my eyesight ever stabilize? He also informed me that my only option for contacts are the hard contacts because of my strange astigmatism. Does anyone have any opinions on hard lenses? He told me they would run me about $600 for a year supply (which I think is only 4 contacts) so that means if I lose one or one breaks it is at least $150 to replace. Is is really worth it if I want contacts?

Vision usually stabilizes in your early to mid-twenties, but could not stabilize until you are close to 30. I would definitely go for another opinion. Try to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist or optometrist that someone else recommends highly or check online for ratings or opinions. I have bilateral astigmatism, but don't recall my prescription changing more than once a year.

get a second opinion even if you like your eye doctor it won't be wrong to do so. good luck dear

Can't help you with the astigmatism but I wore hard contacts for over 20 years before soft lenses came out and afterwards because you coudln't get soft lenses for any sort of astigmatism for a while. Now hard contacts aren't as easy to wear as soft as you are always aware of them and they do take time to wear in. I reckon at least 3 months to get up a decent wearing time although its very dependent on you. Also you do really have to wear every day to keep you wearing time up unlike soft where you can easily leave them out for a week.

Having said this I found my contacts fantastic and wouldn't have been without them for any price although it was my parents paying when I first had them it was about that sort of money. Whether it'll be worth it for you only you can answer. Where I found them wonderful was hill walking , sailing, diong sports and being outside. I felt really liberated not having something heavy stuck on my face all day. Is it worth it for you? You need to work out why you want them. Contacts of any variety do not wear well in front of computer screens for example and you dont' get much advantage from them.
