The most damaging part of the radiation from the sun is the UV exposure. You can have UV protection put on your lenses without changing the appearance of your lenses. Some lens materials such as polycarbonate and high index block UV light without having to add anything to them.

I think what you're interested in is UV Absorption Coating for your sunglasses. This will protect your eyes from the damaging effects of the sun. You can either buy lenses with this already on them, or you can have it added to your existing lenses.

If you want to save some money, you can go to www.replacementlensexpress.com and buy your lenses there. You can get UV coating for very cheap (I think around $25 or $30?) and they will add your prescription to the lenses for just $25.

This is a great company to go to if you already have a frame and you just need new lenses. If you do need the whole thing though (e.g. frame AND lenses), just shop around and find something you like. You can get a UV coating on your lenses or if you are getting sunglasses I recommend getting polarized lenses. Also transitions are very helpful with protecting your eyes from the sun. Or you can get a clip to go on your glasses. Also there are sunglasses that fit over RX glasses.

Go to Walmart. They have these clip things that you can put over your eye glasses. They're not the cheap flip up kind. You need to bring your eye glasses and then see what shape fits. They have a spring/stretch type of thing and they are around $15.00. Check out the jewelry area or the optical area.

My glasses came with specialized clip ons for the frames - one of the reasons I chose them. If you're looking for ordinary clip ons to add make sure that they dont' touch the lens of the glasses at any point or they will scratch your glasses.

Best way to protect your eyes from sun is to wear dark colored sun glasses and even more you can wear a cap or scarf on your head. It will protect your eyes from direct sunlight.
