My 9 yr old son said the bottom eyelid of his left eye has been twitching for a !

Question: My 9 yr old son said the bottom eyelid of his left eye has been twitching for a few days?
but I didn't think it was a big deal. Today as I watch him talking to me I notice that his left eye doesn't blink when the other one does. When he shuts both eyes the left one will stay slightly open. When he squeezes them shut the left eye is noticeably less..."squinched".

All the other nerves in that side of his face seem fine so I'm just wondering what in the heck this could be. I already called his dr but since we are new to the area and the 1st dr we were set up with sucks I am trying to 1st change to another dr in that office. You might say it's more important to just take him to the 1st dr but it would be a waste of time. She has no bedside manner, doesn't pay attention to why you're there and prescribed my son asthma pills and an inhaler for a slight cough. We were there because of a rash and he happened to cough once and she asked about it. I said he had a cold. She prescribed him pills. How could I trust this dr? And she has yet to get us an appt with a dermatologist after a month...

The eyelid twitching itself isn't of huge concern (eyelid myokymia). Muscle twitching can be caused by a variety of things, with the most common thing being stress. I get it every once in a while too. It's rather annoying, but really is nothing to worry about as it will resolve on its own.

However, it is concerning if his left eye is not closely completely (lagophthalmos). If his eye is not closely all the way and/or he is not blinking fully in his left eye, it could potentially cause problems with the cornea getting dry (exposure keratitis) because the tear film is not able to properly protect the front surface of the cornea.

Have you ever taken him to an EYE doctor? Because a general medical doctor certainly isn't going to do squat for eye problems. Find an optometrist in your area, and take him there to get the potential lagophthalmos checked out.

Your child should have their first eye exam between 6 months and 1 year of age. There are many things the optometrist can do to check that vision is progressing properly, even if the child cannot "read" a chart of letters to you.
Then they should have another eye exam around 3 years of age.
And an eye exam before they begin school is also a good idea, around 5 years of age.
And an annual eye exam every year after that. At the very minimum, every other year.

I am an optometry intern.

Try WebMD Physician Directory, though it can be a bit impersonal, its a start. You could also try ratemds.com which people have uploaded reviews and rated the doctors in their area based on personal experiences!

Could be serious. Take him to the eye doctor. It could be as simple as pink eye. That stuff is going around everywhere right now.

sleep more and eat more bananas
