Question: Do coloured eye contacts damage your eyes?

I wear purple coloured eye contacts (brought from a trusted shop and cleaned with the proper solution) and I heard some rumors that coloured eye contacts can damage your eye sight or your eyes. Is this true?

If you buy them for a reputable, registered opticians practice after a consultation with a registered, qualified contact lens specialist, and follow their advice you should have no problems at all.

Buy them from fashion outlets, without a fitting or consultation and you are asking for serious trouble.

Don't EVER wear lenses which have not been prescribed by an optician or contact lens fitter and ALWAYS have your check ups. Follow their advice re cleaning, hygeine and wearing schedule to the letter.

I'm a dispensing optician.

If you don't take care of your contacts, they will damage your eyes for sure.

If you don't wash your hands, you don't clean your lenses, you don't rinse your case, they will get dirty and infect your eyes.
