How often should you get your vision checked?!

Question: How often should you get your vision checked?
I am almost 32 and I began wearing glasses about 20 months ago. At that time I was experiencing headaches nearly every day and I was beginning to notice that it was harder to see distance. My eye doctor gave me a very low prescription for glasses and my headaches disappeared. My insurance covered one eye exam every two years so I was going to wait the full two years to have them checked again. However, lately I have been starting to get more frequent headaches and I am once again having trouble seeing distances (ex. last night my hubby and I ran into a fast food restaurant before heading to the movies and I could not read the overhead menu until I got to the counter and then after the movie, my head and eyes hurt). I have switched jobs and have new insurance so should I wait until March when it will be two full years since my last eye exam? Or should I just go ahead and get it done now? Do eyes change that much so quickly? Like I said, I'm not quite 32 - I thought your eyesight didn't change that much till you got a bit older...

Answers:

Short sight does change all the time. With getting older that is when you become long sighted as well and is a different issue. 20 months is quite a long time in terms of a perscription. If you are having problems reading the overhead menus your eyesight may not be good enough for driving if you drive. You are only 4 months off the 2 years I'd go and get it done now as teh money isn't an issue. How often you go for exams is really a question of if you are having problems. If you aren't having problems wait 2 years, but if there is anythign wrong go anyway. In your case you're having headaches and problems seeing so why wait?

I would suggest getting an eye check up A.S.A.P. Normally whether you wear glasses or not you are supposed to get the check upp done on 6 monthly basis ^^

Every 6 months to a Year.

Yeah, my doctor said that we need to get eye checks every 9 months to a year. If you have no problem, there's no problem if you go once every two years, but I think you should get an eye check, it's been long.

When your near/shortsightedness is genetic, your eyesight doesn't change after you're 21 or so. Since you began wearing glasses when you were about 30 -right?- I assume yours isn't due to genetic factors, so, no, your eyesight will, most probably, keep changing. It's probably because you use your computer too much/tv etc. You should ask your doc for more details
