Question about contacts and eye redness. 10 pts for best advice.?!

Question: Question about contacts and eye redness. 10 pts for best advice.?
I've been wearing contacts for around 7 years. I was prescribed Acuvue 2 when I first got them years back and I've been comfortable ever since. I went to a new eye doctor for my yearly exam and he said he wanted to put me on Acuvue Oasis or w.e they're called. Anyways after a few days of wearing them, my eyes would get really red and they would sting... So i stopped wearing them and a few months and just wore my glasses.

I went back today to a new doctor who seemed really good. He told me that the area around my iris wasn't getting the oxygen it needed and that I need to wear the contacts about 9 hours a day instead of 12-15. So I put my old Acuvue 2 contacts, and after a couple hours the insides of my eye ( area closest to the nose) on both sides had gotten pretty red and stings now that I took them out.

Is it the lack of oxygen that is making them hurt like this? They didn't bother me before I put them in? What should I do?

Answers:

Try another contact lenses, maybe silicone hydrogel are better...also tell doctor to measure your BC.It's very important!!!Also try to wear the lenses about 6-7 hours the silicone ones and 9-10 hours the silicone hydrogel ones.

Lack of oxygen tends not to make your eye hurt , if anything the symptom is that it doesn't hurt having had this. The stinging sounds more like allergy to me. sometimes you need to try various different sorts of lenses to find one which suits you once you have had a problem. Also the lens might not still fit perfectly. You need to go back to teh eye doctor and explain the problem - get him to check teh fit of your old lenses and possibly give you trial sets of other lenses till you find one you want. Getting contacts to work is a co-operation between you and the doctor , sometimes it works first time and sometimes not. You need one who is prepared to help you on the road.
