Power is always negative, but you must be careful because both nearsightedness and astigmatism require negative powers. The big difference is that for nearsightedness you need "Sph" and then a negative number. Astigmatism is instead "Cyl" and a negative number.
BC means base curve and has nothing to do with nearsightedness . It's simply a measure of the physical dimension of your eyes, not the power.



Nearsighted people take minus lenses.
The curvedness should fit the eye.
