Does having a smaller monitor make you near-sighted?!

Question: Does having a smaller monitor make you near-sighted?
I'm currently using a 40" @ 1920x1080, which is a low 55.07 PPI and causes the 'screen-door effect.' It's quite annoying, text isn't particularly sharp, etc.

Now, I may get a 23" @ 1920x1080, which is 95.78 PPI.. Obviously, that means I'm going to sit much closer to my screen.

Would it be better for my eyes to use the 40", does that have any effect on myopia / near sightedness?

Thanks.

Answers:

Screens dont' affect your eyesight in the sense that they make it worse. However the size of the text does make a difference to whether or not you need to wear your glasses when working at the screen. You shouldn't move your scrreen closer to you as this causes eye strain, neither should you lean to see the text as you'll get back and neck pain, so make sure you have a size of monitor and glasses such that you dont' need to do this.

I'm short sighted and have astigmatism; I've always found the big screens more of a strain on my eyes as you don't have the field of vision with glasses so you tend to have to move your head round a lot more. 23 inch I personally would find far better with a better PPI but it is an individual thing. Sounds like you need your eyesight and/or glasses checked for working on teh screen.

no effect on myopia proven.
Why will you sit closer - if the 40" is in focus at a set distance, so will the 23 " - yours eyes and brain should be able to cope with the smaller image.
