The first appointment I can get for my eyedoctor is January 3rd...?!

Question: The first appointment I can get for my eyedoctor is January 3rd...?
In the mean time, my eyes hurt and I'm having trouble seeing distance. (I already wear glasses with a very low prescription for distance) I also have about 75 pages worth of papers to write for school that are due on January 24th so I am basically in a time of my life where giving my eyes a true rest is not an option. I don't feel like I have strained my eyes, but when I am at work, I'm usually in front of a computer, and when I am at home, I'm in front of a computer doing homework. I have about a month before I can see my eye doctor and during that time I simply HAVE to keep working and doing my homework. Are there any simple ways that I can help my eyes feel a bit more rejuvinated so that I can get all my work done without doing damage to my eyes?

Answers:

computers do tend to strain the eyes when you work on them for long periods even if your vision is fully corrected. The first thing is not to worry that you are doing permanent damage to your eyes. Computers strain your eyes but dont' damage them permanently. If they did most computer professionals would be in a bad way.

When working on the screens make sure that the lighting is correct - you should sit at 90 degrees to any light source including windows if at all possible. Your eyes shoudl be in line with the top of the screen. Laptops are not suitable for long term working, you need a sepearte keyboard and mouse. Computer companies do not allow people to work all the time on laptops. Make sure that every 1/2 hour you take your eyes off teh screen and readjust. You should have your screen as far away as possible, but if you are having problems iwth your distance vision then this isn't going to be possible, but increase font sizes if you can and dont' work on the computer in the dark. I find resting my eyes after using the computer for 10 minutes or so by putting a weighted bag over them such as is used for yoga relaxation ( don't try and improvise here , you need a properly weighted bag, try one of the yoga websites) helps. Also drink enough as otherwise your eyes dry out.

It will be difficult until you can get a new perscription , but do not worry that you are damagign your eyes permanently.

DO NOT WAIT see a doctor as soon as possible.i had a problem and waited for the doc appt.if i had gone asap a correction could have been made instad i went blind in one eye and had to have surgery to correct it . never wait on your eyes. i learned the hard way.
