What is wrong with my eyes?!

Question: What is wrong with my eyes?
Every once in a while (every few months) a small part of my bottom eyelid will slightly swell into a tiny bump. It will last for about 4-5 days and then dissapear. When I get it, it usually may happen on my other eye too, but always on a different part. I may sometimes even get it on my top eyelid. I dont know what is causing it as I always take eye makeup off at the end of the day. Do you think it could be an infection? If I pull my lid out where the bump is and look inside there is nothing there (puss or bumps). If this was a one off occurance then I would of left it, but because it keeps happening it leads me to think it could be something in my routine which may not be quite right, for example maybe I could be allergic to my mascara? But if so, why would I not get it all the time and not just parts of my eye lid. Do you think this is anything to worry about, should I consult someone?

Answers:

I started having this issue too--just a few months ago!
It started with a bump on the top lid, that got kind of big and painful (but not obvious to anyone else) and I thought it was an isolated case of a stye. But it never got that big. Then that one went down after a while and a new one on the bottom lid towards the tear duct showed up a few days later. Then the other side, same spot! This kept happening for about a month, mostly on the bottom lids near the inner tear duct but kind of randomly along the lid too.
So yeah--I know what you mean! I never figured it out and I haven't had one for about a month now. Here are my theories, but sorry--I'm still not sure why or what it was.

I do wear contacts, am 19 years old, don't wear makeup. I think it was either a sensitivity to something though (face wash, some kind of soap, etc.), or something that didn't touch my eye but was an allergic symptom. (I have allergies to lots of environmental stuff and get shots for it). You might try switching brands of eyeliner/eye makeup for a few weeks to see if that makes a difference, but I don't really think it is the makeup.

Then again, something tells me it may have been caused by a case of the tear ducts becoming blocked during a period of time (this can result in a big stye, kind of like a pimple on the eyelid), but it never got that big, and there were multiple.
It sounds weird, but I was upset a lot during that month because of stressful stuff and I cried quite a bit--maybe that had something to do with it. A change in tear-duct flow? :/

Other than that, I was stressed a lot in general during this time, and I get break outs on my face more when I'm stressed, so I thought maybe they were getting creative and jumping to my eyelid (horror!) I don't think that's the case really either though.

But I don't think it's a big deal unless they keep happening for a long time and they bug you, or you start experiencing any allergic symptoms in any other way. I'm thinking it's a sensitivity to some change--whether stress, allergic, physical irritation (more touching of that area), or even a systemic change like a new medication or change in diet.
Good luck! I think they'll go down soon!
