Hi Kong Chea,

Well yes its more normal for people's vision to get worse than 20/20 from the age of 50 onwards. So your case is a bit unusual. The one thing that will always prevent you from ever seeing 20/20 or better will be the elongation of the eyeball. Usually when you get an eyetest or buy glasses the people inside the store will avoid discussing the cause of your bad eyesight. The focus will be solely on the sellablity and apparent usefulness of the product (glasses)

The "product" obviously has appeal. Millions of people in practically every country now use glasses. Wearing glasses does however have its disadvantages. Youre probably aware of some of them already. From your question it appears the strain of poor vision sits uncomfortably with you. It could be the case that you spend long periods considering/worrying whether youre doing the right thing for your eyes.
There is the social handicap wearers have to put up with also to consider. This occurs due to staring through the lens whenever they meet or talk with people etc. This kind of behaviour is not appreciated by the general public. It makes other people uncomfortable

Well most myopic people find that when they truely relax, allow their eyes to turn/move freely, smile and in general being comfortable around people...is when they get a small improvement to their vision.
However there is only so far this improvement can god ue to, as said earlier, the limit imposed on your distance vision by the longterm elongation of your eyeball.
Some experts suggest that if then eyeball can lengthen (front to back) then it is equally possible for it to be shortened. (Either by course of nature or from using of the opposite type of lens (convex)

There is a book by someone called William H Bates. He was one of the first eye doctors to discuss the possiblity of glasses being bad for natural eyesight, He discussed how some people can show myopia traits from just checking their gaze from photos or in face to face situations. The book also highlights how for the last 100 years rates of myopia have been increasing in the US.

Obviously hearing about a book that suggests the idea of glasses being possibly BAD for people makes all the people involved in selling glasses mad. A picture of them huffing and puffing is quite appropriate. ('til they blow the house down)

Anyway here are some links that you might want to consider. They are free and you have no obligation to continue with anything (you can go back to glasses if you wish.)

Its a myth that myopia is caused by your parents or by genetics.

Its worrying not to have perfect eyesight but yours is really mild. At your age mine was a lot worse. Nothing you do or dont' do will affect your eyesight permanently. Don't believe that eye exercises, eating the right foods, watching or not watching TV/using computer screens will make a difference. its all due to having an eyeball the wrong shape and this showing up as you grow. It tends to stablize in your 20's. Your eyes need a break from contacts so that they get enough oxygen and at night is the best time to do this. Try not to worry about this - my eyesight was a lot worse than this at your age and I still have perfect vision when corrected adn its never stopped me from doing anything or going anywhere I wanted to. Its a nuisance not a stopper.

You have mild myopia. Lots of people your age and younger have that much or more.

Eyedrops should only be used on a doctor's advice. Wearing glasses or contacts will not make your myopia worse.

No food will prevent myopia. Myopia is a genetic condition and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Most people's myopia stops getting worse sometime between age 16 and age 25.

i'm an optometrist

you'll be fine

Your prescription of pretty mild and may get a worse until it stabilizes, usually in your early to mid-twenties. This visual decrease is quite normal. Wearing or not wearing corrective lenses (eye glasses or contact lenses) will not make your vision better or worse. The more you worry about your very mild vision problem, the worse it will seem, not really be. You are definitely doing the right thing to protect your vision by switching from contact lenses to eye glasses as night. If you are using drops recommend by you eye doctor that is fine. If you are using over the counter eye drops that you think might help your vision, they won't and you should check with your eye doctor before continuing to use them.

The best way maintain eyesight is: See an eye specialist for a comprehensive dilated exam every 2-3 years. Do not smoke and try to avoid second hand smoke. Eating a diet rich in red, yellow and green leafy vegetables may help you maintain good vision and avoid getting certain diseases, like age related macular degeneration, but will not improve your vision.

There is no scientific proof that eye exercises, eye vitamins or eating foods high in beta-carotene (carrots) or lutein will improve visual acuity. Numerous studies have been conducted and continue to be conducted on this subject and to date all results are inconclusive. If there were any real proof that any natural remedy could improve vision, believe me eye docs would not be able to suppress the information from the public. Anyone who says different is putting those that need corrective lenses or who have optical disease or problems at risk. Listening to quacks is dangerous to your health. Certain vitamin deficiencies can cause eye problems, but this usually occurs in poor countries where people are malnourished or because an individual's system cannot process the vitamin(s).
