my eyes are -5.5 in one and -4.75 in the other how bad is that?!

In my opinion -5.50 is a bit rubbish. like if you wanted to admire a pretty girl walking on the other side of a street. with -5.50 it would just a blur. how can you get into that???

You fall in the range of "moderately nearsighted" you most likely need your glasses all the time. As long as your eyes are otherwise healthy (the only problem is nearsightedness) there is no reason for panic, you aren't going to go blind or anything like that.

You qualify as a "moderate myope." Your vision isn't necessarily good, but it could be a whole lot worse. The worst prescription any of my instructors have seen is -27D.

You did not ask about further changes, and that depends on age. If you are about 11 or 12 you can expect it to become more severe. If you are in the range of 16 to 20 the changes have probably stopped.

You are moderately nearsighted, it could be much worse though.
