tiny black dot in eye?!

Question: Tiny black dot in eye?
Hi, about 2 days ago, when i was taking my eye make-up off, when I woke up the next morning, the tiniest black dot at the very top of my left eye, in my vision I could see it. I cannot see it all the time, but on occasions i can. its not even extremely black, almost a faint black with a tiny hole in the middle. its very very small, and as mentioned, it is not always in my vision.
and also, in the mirror I can see a very small bump on my top eyelid below my eyelashes, like a small sty, not sure if this has any relevance.

was just wondering what it is?
many thanks.
and will vote best answer :)

about the black dot thing it could just be a floater?
Floaters r common (i think in short-sighted people) and aren't harmful in many....and I asked my optician about this and she sed not to worry about this...in time i learnt just to ignore it....now after a couple of years I had completely forgotten i even had one...until is saw this question!!!

(floaters move when u move ur eye...or in very bright light u can see them.)

BUT i would still get it checked out JUST in case...i'm just guessing its a floater.

HOWEVER I'm NOT qualified to answer ur question....u should get it checked out...and also that small bump thing. Don't be shy and just go to a medical professional....ie' ur family doc.

plz get it checked out- i don't know ur age, past medical history or anything...so this is a gues

SAFE thing would be to ask a doctor.

is it a piece of dirt?

the retina of the eye is made up of hundreds of tiny receptors.just like any other part of the body they sometimes get damaged through too much light a blow to the head or eye sudden pressure etc also they wear out .if you lose one receptor you don't notice it but if a few in one place gets damaged then you notice as you said a small black dot or line sometimes a wiggly line like a scribbled pencil line .mostly these are not too much of a bother but in some cases they are caused by some underlying problem .glaucoma high blood pressure and even cancer.get your eyes checked out to see what is causing it..here is hoping it isn't serious..
