If you have convergence insufficiency, can you still get lasik eye surgery?!

Question: If you have convergence insufficiency, can you still get lasik eye surgery?
I have convergence insufficiency and I am near-sighted. I want to get lasik eye surgery but I was told it wouldn't even help at all due to the CI. I don't know what I should do.

If you have CI and, say, myopia (nearsightedness), then yes, you can get LASIK surgery to correct the nearsightedness. You'll still have the CI, though, and all of its resultant symptoms, and you might still need glasses to ease the symptoms while working up close (e.g. reading). Think of it this way: the nearsightedness is because the eyes don't have a clear image, and the CI is a problem with the eyes cooperating with one another. Even if we fix the refractive error with a laser and give each eye a clear image, that won't make them suddenly start working better together.

I'm an optometrist.
