How does one deal with glaucoma and the loss of vision?---Not interestedd in med!

Question: How does one deal with glaucoma and the loss of vision?---Not interestedd in medication.?
Answers:

Glaucoma is caused by high pressure in the eye, and if medication is not on your to do list, then talk to your doctor about possible surgery to install a flap on the eyeball to relieve the pressure.
I understand this procedure in being done at the Cleveland Clinic eye center, where as I understand it, they install some sort of pressure valve on the eyeball.
This alternative was presented to me because of allergies to the medication to lower the eye pressure.
As it turned out, the allergy was caused by the preservative contained in the drops, and I was able to use drops without this preservative.

There are many surgeries for glaucoma. Just make sure you go to an ophthalmologist and not an optometrist and discuss your options. You can get iridotomies, trabeculectomies, trabeculotomies, express shunt, etc. I have had many patients who used to be on several drops and now require no medication to reach their target pressures.

Also, glaucoma isn't always associated with high pressures. Some people have normal intraocular pressures and still have glaucoma. Its a disease we don't fully understand yet, but lowering pressures does seem to slow the disease down.

what do you mean you're not interested in medication?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
SO you would rather be in terrible pain all the time and go blind and possibly need your eyes removied just cuz you don't want to use some eye drops and take some ibuprofen if/when your eyes hurt? THAT IS THE MOST RETARDED THING I'VE EVER HEARD!

"How does one deal with glaucoma and the loss of vision?" ummmmm i had a tiny tube put in my left eye to help lower the eye pressure and i use my medication in the right eye and i just keep on truckin.

i'm 24 and i've had glaucoma since i was 11 and i'm blind in my left eye and have very poor vision in my right eye.

The loss of sight is a most terrible thing. I know of several friends who do take the drops to relieve the pressure & it helps. It is a costly proposition but the alternative of losing the eyesight is far worse. I am lucky so far since I do not suffer from this disease but I do wear glasses to corrective my blindness without them. i can not see without lenses. My dog Conan has lost his vision in his right eye due to glaucoma which was identified much too late to save his sight. We use the drops for his other eye which does help him but it is a losing battle as the problem grows. I would consult with another doctor for further info but i would rather deal with meds than lose the eyesight.

You'd rather go blind than use some medication to keep your eyesight?

Sounds like you have bigger issues than just glaucoma.

My father in law had that and is now almost completely blind, he gets by and is a stubborn man, I guess that helps :)
