I do not believe there is an eye website that offers guidelines for reading. Just like excessive computer usage can cause temporary eye strain, so can excessive reading. Make sure the lighting conditions are good and without a glare when you are reading and take occasional breaks, if your eyes start to feel tired.

The best way maintain good eyesight; see an eye specialist for a comprehensive dilated exam every 2-3 years. Do not smoke and try to avoid second hand smoke. Eating a diet rich in red, yellow and green leafy vegetables may help you maintain good vision and avoid getting certain diseases, like age related macular degeneration and certain cancer

There is no evidence that reading damages your eyes permenantly , like computers you may get strained eyes but this isn't permanent. As you get older you may need glasses but reading won't make any difference to that. I think the general advice would be just to make sure you use good light.
