My contacts make my eye red!?!

Question: My contacts make my eye red!?
I started wearing contacts at the end of 6th grade. They were bausch and lomb. I never had a problem until this summer when I got an eye infection. I went to the doctor and he gave me some eye drops. Two weeks later I put them in and my eyes ended up getting red. After that I was mainly in glasses but I put in my contacts maby every one or to weeks but it mad my eyes red. Then about 3 or 4 weeks ago I went to a different eye doctor. I told her I wanted to wear my contacts again but my eye gets red. She looked at my eyes and said my eyes were find, then she switched me to a trial pair of air optix. At first the contacts were okay but a week later my eye woul keep on getting dry. I didn't wear them on thanksgiving. Then I went back to school now I wear them occasionaly. But my eyes get tired of them and I have drainage. My eyes also got red Monday then I weared them Friday and now my eyes are red qnd their is drainage. So should I switch to a different contact brand. I wanted acucue oyasis but I didn't ask the eye doctor. So should I ask her for a trial pair of those are try a different brand? I also have angtisitsim.

It is pretty unlikely that you have an eye infection. It is more likely that you have a reaction to something in your contact lens care regimen. You may need to switch solutions or kind of contacts again. If the B&L lenses you were wearing were Pure Vision, you probably need to switch to a kind that is not silicon hydrogel. Your eye doctor is the best source of options in either case.

She was talking about Clear Care. I am surprised she didn't give you a starter kit. The company is very generous with them (at least to me). It can be a little expensive to buy if you are not sure it will help. If you pick up some on your own, make sure you read and follow the instructions exactly. You need both the solution and the case.

You have an infection. Wearing contacts while you still have an infection has been making it worse.

Stop wearing them. After about a fortnight get your eyes checked to see what damage you've done.

Don't EVER wear lenses with an infection, red eye, irritation etc. You need to review lens type, solution, wearing schedule, hygeine, everything.

If you were my patient I'd probably stop you wearing them for a significant period, say 6 months, then start from scratch.

I'm a dispensing optician. And common sense says don't wear lenses when you have an infection.
