EYE PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP? PLEASE?!

Question: EYE PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP? PLEASE?
I'm 18 and I think, this year, when I went to the eye doctor, he said my eye has 600 or so grade? Sometimes, when I don't wear eyeglasses, it really is blury. I'm nearsighted. Is there any way to lessen the grade without surgery (cos i'm really scared). Please help? Will I get blind? Oh gosh. I'm sorry. I'm a bit paranoid :(

it's definitely possible to reduce nearsightedness by doing the proper exercises and using undercorrections, especially for near work. You also have to learn why the eyes become nearsighted and how to avoid those bad habits. So far I've reduced my nearsightedness from -3.75 to -1.00 and I keep improving.

The method I'm following is explained here:

there's also a forum

Please stop worrying. Eyesight tends to change until you are in your 20's. This is because the problem is to do with the shape of your eyeball and you are still growing. However you will not go blind although your eyesight might get worse. I'm afraid there isn't anything that will improve your eyesight short of surgery , all studies show that eye exercises, what you eat etc. doesn't make any difference. You won't be able to see well without glasses with that sort of perscription but that wont' stop you doing anything. Mine is around that and I with teh help of glasses and contacts there is nothing that I haven't been able to do, sports, hill walking , swimming etc. and contacts give natural eyesight. Its bound to be worrying when your eyesight gets worse but it does not mean you are going to become blind.

No, there is no way of reducing your prescription, unless you count lazer surgery. You don't go blind through myopia itself, although highly myopic people are prone to some eye conditions in later life, this is not a concern at your age.

Please ignore the previous answer that wearing your glasses will reduce your prescription - this is incorrect.

I'm an Optometrist

Wear your glasses, they improve your vision, just slowly ...

Personal experience

if you need surgery just go through with it..i mean is shouldn't that bad considering you need your vision

ahmee if you dont like people like hippo saying stuff 100s of times without quoting any source then please report him for to yahoo answers

He said you cant avoid your eyesight getting worse. Well he knows some people actually have eye prescriptions that got better. because everytime he puts his answers on here someone else (helpfully) points out where hes wrong. To be honest for someone to be so far from scientific fact it must take some serious mental incapacity or some psychological issue. Hes come to this site with no genuine knowledge about eyesight and never quotes anything (like a book or website) to back his stories.

He has no social life. How can someone in this kind of predicament think hes in a position to be some kind of advisor? He just spends 24/7 logging on here, ignores other people pointing out his mistakes and has no experience with dealing with peoples eyesight in real life

Ask him what is his source that says its IMPOSSIBLE for eyesight to improve (even by 0.25 diopters) Anyone who wears glasses probably can have 2 eyetests in one month and find the occasional improvement. Any optometrist who is handling 100s of customers a week will see some people coming in with eyesight better than before

If you're over 50 then the crystalline lens will stiffen up. That is the only non-negotiable part of eyesight. (Unless they find something they can inject into it to loosen it up.

You're 18 years old. Theres no evidence that your lens or ciliary muscle is less capable than anyone else in the world. There is no evidence necessarily of disease. However by tensing the muscles that turn your eye around its been suggested that its possible (unwittingly) pull your eyeball to be longer in shape. Most people have sphere shaped eyeballs and they stay sphered shape until death. Can a so called expert like HIPPO explain why this happens? He said "its because when people get older their eyeball changes shape." No. This is something happening to him only not someone with healthy normal vision. He explained in another answer that he has massively screwed up eyesight and uses prism glasses because his eyes dont point in the same direction.

His eyes are screwed and so will anyone else who listens to hiim.
He might end up with kids and slap their heads hard enough so that their eyes are screwed up like his. then he can be completely satisfied that his "THEORIES" stand true.

Source showing eyeball size can change (in any direction) via the use of different lenses:

Shaeffel, F., Glasser, A., and Howland, H.C. (1988) Accomodation, refractive error and eye growth in chickens. Vis. Res. 28, 639-657.

Source showing its possible for people to improve their eyesight if they simply have myopia:

I think really he wants to pretend none of this exists because it makes him feel better that hes gone all his life down his (misguided) path
