Can your eye prescription change depending on which opticians you visit? When do!

Question: Can your eye prescription change depending on which opticians you visit? When do prescriptions tend to steady?
I have had two materially different assessments from 2 opticians (one says -4.75 and -5.00, and one says -5.00 and -5.50). I wonder if that's natural error or someone's done something wrong?

Also, I wonder at what age does eye sight begins to settle and not worsen? And what can one do to stop eye sight worsening?

Eye prescription is not an exact science, that's why two optometrist may write down a different prescription for the same person. Furthermore personal opinions make a big difference. There are optometrists who are convinced that a person with glasses/contacts should never see better than 20/20 because that would put a strain on their eyes and worsen their eyesight. Others believe that 20/20 is too little and therefore they choose stronger lenses. They also believe that stronger lenses do not harm eyesight in the least.

Personally I have myself as evidence that glasses are harmful and that weaker lenses are much,. much better, especially for near work. Thanks to exercises and the use of undercorections I've greatly reduced my nearsightedness which originally was -3.75 and now it's just -1.00.

Eyesight gets easily worse until mid 20s, sometimes even early 30's. At the very least you should use much wealer glasses when you read books or use the computer, because your current glasses are too strong for such a short distance.

As to the exercises it takes quite some time to explain them, so I recommend you to read the book I myself used to learn them:

there tend to be two different thought processes on eye lens prescriptions. this that think giving exact needs are Ok and those that think if we give exact it will weaken eye again quicker and hence opt for a very slightly weaker lens. also it can be that you are border line so each optician will select what he or she thinks you are nearest to.
eyes tend to change when growing and do not settle? much until puberty is over so around 17-18 for females and 19-22 for boys ( there are a great variations but that is an average)
we can practise eye muscle exercises to slow this down. eg focus on near object then switch to far away. do this for each eye separately ( cover other) then both eyes at same time .. approx 10 times . roll eyes in a circular motion looking as far as we can to edge without turning our heads, so we can see our feet , walls ceiling just moving out eyes.
there are many more but you will need an optician to assist in reality. don't even think about having eyes lasered until after 18 !

your eye test should be the same from both opticians so one isn't right. how wrong it is i can't say. your eyesight will normally even out in your early 20s and then should only alter if you gain weight,or have some medical conditions. ordinarily your eyesight should remain fairly stable till your around 50. then it will start to deteriorate a little.

There can be slight differences in prescriptions if you visit differing opticians. The spherical needs to be read in conjunction with the axis and any additions
