Optometrist I need ur help!!!! What is the cause of "floaters" and are!

Question: Optometrist I need ur help!!!! What is the cause of "floaters" and are they harmful?
For some years now, I have been seein these things that look like "floaters." There are only about 2 of them that I see: clear, skinny, line shaped figures that I see when looking at a white or very light surface/background. I heard that it's really not that serious. In fact, I was told that they are actually very minor---like just some fragments floating up 2 ur lens or sumthin. But, I'm not sure. So, could u give me a little help please. Becuz i would really like to kno!!! lol. Thanks in advance :)

Floaters are debris located inside your eye. Usually they are immobile. Thats why most of the time you don't notice them.

When doing something like excessive near-work this activity causes the ciliary muscle to heat up (this is the muscle in charge of changing the focus of the lens). When this occurs the the gel-like substance contained inside the eye is warmed up and softens. The debris (floaters) that were previously immobile are now able to float around. Whenever one crosses the middle of the eye it will cast a shadow on the retina.

Thats why some people end up seeing floaters.
