No you can wear contacts immediately, however you do need glasses as well. This is because you can't wear contacts all day as it is bad for your eyes - normal times are about the 14 hour mark. Also there are points where you will have problems wearing contacts eg. if you have a bad cold , or are ill with something which gives you dry eyes.

You need an appointment with the optiican to get contacts fitted. Also a contact perscription is slightly different from the perscription for glasses. The optician checks your eyes and will give you test lenses. Which are best depends very much on your eyesight. Also some brands work better than others for different people. That is why the optiican gives trial sets. Remember that contacts these days are nearly always disposable. This means that buying contacts means spending money every month and you also need regular checkups with an optiican to make sure your eyes are healthy. You need to speak to your mom about the cost as she may not realize this.
