British Army eyesight Requirements?!

Question: British Army eyesight Requirements?
I was planning on joining as an Officer, does anyone know if this is ood enough? (i wear glasses)
The eyesight in my ;
Left eye is 6/6 unaided, 6/4 aided - Sph:+3.75, Cyl: -0.50 (6/4 is better than 6/6, about 20/13)
Right eye is 6/10 unaided, 6/6 aided - Sph: +4.5 Cyl: -1.00

I know it's good enough to join the infantry but thats not what i'm asking, I wan't to know if it's ok for an Officer in the Royal Engineers. The only thing i'm worried about is my right eye.

Thanks

Answers:

Hi,

Best corrected vision in right eye 6/6 (20/20) or better and corrected vision no worse than 6/36 in left eye. If grade involves driving then vision in left/worse eye must be 6/12 corrected or better. Some safety critical grades require 6/6 corrected vision R&L.

Hope this helps.

I'm a Contact Lens Optician but my step brother is in the Royal Artillery and I got him to find out for you.

I asked this question of the army a couple of years ago when my son was expressing an interest in joining. He's very long sighted and has worse sight than yours and they said it was ok. As long as you're not wanting to become a sniper or something like that I think it should be ok.

They have a very good instant chat service on the british army website (can't remember the details now but you should be able to google for it). You can chat online to serving soldiers and find out the answers to questions like this straight away.

My Dad is a retired Officer of a similar regiment and his eyesight has always been quite bad and he joined 40 years ago. Apply. Good luck.
