is it safe for me to have lasik eye surgery at the age of 20 about to be 21?!

Question: Is it safe for me to have lasik eye surgery at the age of 20 about to be 21?
Because i hear all these bad things about it on this early show on ABC. That people were reporting seeing double, blurry vision, and other effect. I dont want to regret having the surgery. My mother tells me i should wait, but i dont know if i wait longer i will be able to afford the procedure.
also, my mom ask at my opthamologist assistant and she said that according to her it only last about 7 years and your vision will start to reduce

Help?

Don't do it. What you heard is right. This kind of surgery is too risky and even if it goes well it doesn't last long.

At your age, there is a good chance your prescription would change after you had the surgery, requiring you to wear glasses again anyways.

More importantly, there is at any age a very high (not that your surgeon will ever admit it) risk of halos in vision, loss of night vision, and severe (crippling) dry eyes.

I am of the opinion that people should not cut into their perfectly healthy corneas, sever the connections permanently, and risk losing their sight in part or whole, or risk suffering a lifetime of burning eyes that feel like they've got sand and pepper stuffed in them.... to avoid wearing glasses or contacts.

Your eyes are perfectly healthy. Please keep them that way, and if you don't want to take my word for it, you can search through the many lasik horror stories at dryeyezone, including http://dryeyezone.com/talk/showthread.ph…

To quote her:

"I NEVER WANTED A STORY TO TELL

I have extreme LASIK-induced dry eyes. I wear air-tight goggles in my house, in my car and outside. I avoid public places, and shy away from social gatherings. The moving air of shopping malls and grocery stores intensifies my constantly burning eyes. I am terribly sensitive to sunlight, even with tinted goggles. Dry eye pain and burning wake me in the middle of every single night. I can no longer read or watch TV for pleasure. "

Lasik is a horrible voluntary surgery that should not be legal to unsuspecting patients lining up to get "butchered."
