Can reading too much damage your eyes?!

Question: Can reading too much damage your eyes?
If you are already short-sighted, can doing lots of close work, such as reading and typing at the computer, cause the myopia (near/short-sightedness) to worsen? Can reading too much damage your eyes?

Answers:

I am in graduate school full time and I work full time so I do a LOT of reading and computer work. As a result I have lost some of my distance vision and I have had to wear glasses now for about 2 years. I don't know if this is permanent yet or if once I graduate in May and I am able to lessen my time reading and on the computer if my vision might get better, but yes, in my experience, too much close work has caused me to lose some of my distance vision

there is no evidence that this is teh case and various scientific studies have been done on it. If it were the case then all computer professionals would be short sighted and getting worse and this is not the case. It can strain your eyes. Some people do develop eyesight problems whilst they are in their teens/early twenties and tend to associate that with studying , however the studies show this is a coiincidence and they would have developed eyesight problems anyway. You can strain your eyes which causes temporary problems. Follow the various sets of advice on answers about how to reduce eyestrain.

from what i know it is the level of light. Example if your reading in low light your eyes have to adjust diffrently to be safe read in a well lit area
