all of a sudden I seen this dark reddish brown "splat" like image in m!

Question: All of a sudden I seen this dark reddish brown "splat" like image in my eye site with lots of squiggly lines.?
the "splat took up most of my site at first and then it was just these squiggly veiny type floaters but they were very prominent for about 15 ,20 minutes and now they are still there but not as obvious. Along with this is a small light like dot that is in my peripheral vision if I look up and down it looks as if it orbits around the outer part of my vision, if I look from side to side it orbits in a semi circle on the outer side of my vision. I am going on a plane trip in five hours. Could this be something serious and could the altitude cause more of a problem. My eyes have also been very dry lately especialy upon rising in the morning.

Chris, this deserves a prompt trip to the eye doctor. You could have experienced a posterior vitreous detachment, which in itself has a low risk for permanent vision loss. However, it is also possible a retinal detachment or break has occurred. This is serious and definitely has the potential for permanent vision loss. It's extremely difficult to make the distinction between these two diagnoses without getting a dilated examination. Your eyes are too important to take the risk, call a doctor today.

I have been selling glasses in optical for six years. I am not an eye doctor but this sounds very abnormal. I would be very worried about a place trip making it worse. You should really consider going to the emergency room or eye doctor.
