Help me read my prescription?!

Question: Help me read my prescription?
Well I finally got an eye exam and as I expected, I needed glasses. My prescription says
OD:-0.75
OS:-0.75
What does that mean? How bad is my eyesight? Do I need to wear my glasses all the time and can I get contacts for vision as bad as mine?

It means that you are nearsighted and its quite low. Your eyesight is not bad at all. You should wear your glasses all the time or you could get eyestrain which can worsen your vision.

OD is an abbreviation for oculus dexter, Latin for "right eye".
OS is an abbreviation for oculus sinister, Latin for "left eye".

The number is the spherical correction required by each eye. A negative number means nearsightedness and a positive means farsightedness.

If your perscription were to have three numbers per eye, that would mean that you also have an astigmatism, but if you've only got a spherical correction value, you don't need to worry about that.

-0.75 is pretty mild nearsightedness. You could probably get away with not wearing you glasses all the time, but be aware that doing so would actually put more strain on your eyes and cause your vision to get worse over time.

You shouldn't have any problem getting contacts... you don't really require much of a correction. I've got a value of -2.75 in one eye and -1.75 in the other (and an astigmatism in both, on top of that), and even I can wear contacts. LOL!

-.075 means (very very roughly) that you can see perfectly clearly from about 4-5 away. That is not very bad at all, and I assume this is your first pair of glasses.
That's a milder prescription Its up to you. You can wear them all the time. My girlfriend has -1.00 and wears hers all the time, while I started wearing mine all the time when I needed to at about a -3.00 prescription. Its up to you!
They make contacts, but if you don't wear glasses all the time, its not worth it.

You have mild myopia aka nearsightedness. Your prescription is really low and you probably just need your eyeglasses when you need clear distance vision. If you drive, you should wear your eyeglasses. You can get contacts in that prescription, but it is probably not worth it.

It's not that bad you won't even realize the difference between wearing glasses or not.
I don't think you can get contacts for 0.75, normally contacts' prescription will be subtracted by 0.50. I guess there's no contacts for 0.25.
