I had an attack of bilateral optic neuritis that originated in August of 2009 and had affected vision until around April or May 2010 and now I am noticing in my right eye that I have had pain for the last two days just behind where my eye is situated and it feels like a migraine in just that one place. I am also noticing pain with movement and decrease in brightness of colors and sharpness of vision in the right eye with leads me to believe it is a recurrence of optic neuritis... how common is it to have a recurrence in the same year?

Yes, you could be experiencing a recurrence of the optic neuritis. There are many known causes for optic neuritis, but sometimes it comes from an unknown cause (idiopathic). You need to go back to your doctor to have your current case checked out. Also, be sure to ask if a cause for your optic neuritis is known. One thing to look out for is multiple sclerosis.
