Question: I know this may sound stupid but can Kids wear Reading glasses?
This may sound like a stupid Question but you never seem to see Kids like of the age of 15 and so wearing reading glasses it's always short sighted glasses. I wear glasses myself as i am shortsighted.

Answers:

Daniel... this is not a stupid question....

Often, we rub shoulders with a small group of people... and although you're myopic (shortsighted), and have a few friends who are also the same, you might view the whole world (of youths) as the same...

Infact, it's quite the opposite!!!... upto 80% babies are born HYPEROPIC (loongsighted)... and as they grow, they become 'nomal visioned'.... there are still a large number of pubescent kids who are longsighted... (more than shortsighted)..

Now here's the trick.... Young people's eyes... their muscles can COMPENSATE for their longsightedness... and although they could benefit from 'reading' glasses... they don't actually notice any problems with reading... as their muscles MASK the problems (head-aches, lack of concentration, or even blurry vision).

Unless their degree of hyperopia is moderate, they won't need to wear glasses.

ON the other hand... myopia makes DISTANCE vision blurred.. and because at school, you have to look at small writing on blackboards..etc.. or view powerpoint presentations on whiteboards... sitting from the back of the class.. means you can't read the board.. means you struggle at school. Now your muscles CAN'T compensate for this blur.. and you are forced to wear glasses.

That's why it appears that there are more myopic people.... but it's quite the opposite.

If you have a child 15 years old who is having problems seeing and your asking about reading glasses, GET AN EYE EXAM for this child. A doctor will be able to evaluate what the vision problem is. Reading glasses are usually something used for adults who as they age, their eye changes. A child is still growing. A proper eye exam needs to be done to evaluate what the actual problem is. Children's eyes are very different than adult eyes.

RN, BSN and wearing glasses since age 3

Of course they can: I know several children who wear them, some short-sighted, some long-sighted. Just make sure that the eyes are tested and the glasses fitted by a properly qualified optician.

personal experience

Yes rare though usually 40's~ 50's

Of course! Even babies wear them if needed.
