How do you know when you need glasses?!

Question: How do you know when you need glasses?
without going straight for an eye exam, is there a way to be absolutely sure there's something wrong with your sight. I forgot what things far away are supposed to look like and I don't know if I'm seeing the contrast as well as it should be, is there some sort of home eye exam I could do ?
any opinions or comments welcomed

If you don't recognize far-away objects, that could be an indication you've developed a bit of nearsightedness. The easy way to figure this out is to look a bunch of text in various sizes (they have you do during an eye exam). You can print out an eye chart and tape it to the wall, or just display it on your computer screen. Stand back 10 feet or more and see if any of the lettering has become out of focus. If it does, see about making an appointment to get glasses to correct your distance vision.

Cover one eye, and look at a small object on the other side of the room. Does it look clear or blurred? Do the same with the other eye - is the object clear or blurred? Then try to read a book first with one eye, then the other. This is just a basic test but should give you an idea of whether you need to have a sight-test. If you have to squint to bring things into focus or get a headache after reading, then you definitely need a test.

Are you able to see things clearly or are they fuzzy? Can you read without difficulty say a book? Can you read street signs? If you are questioning your vision then it suggests that you are not seeing as you once did. That is reason alone to get an eye exam done. How long has it been since you had an eye exam?

You either see things blurry or you notice that you start to get headaches after spending some time reading, writing or watching TV. The headache will hurt at the temples and eyes.

When your eyes really hurt after concentrating on something for a while like watching tv or you cant see properly maybe blury..

You should see about getting glasses when you dont see as well as you used to. When you get light headed while reading also.
