What does my eye glasses prescription mean?!

Question: What does my eye glasses prescription mean?
If someone could explain the following eye glasses prescription (more so the right eye) I would be very grateful:

Right +1.25/+0.50 x 85 Add +1.50

Left +1.75 Add +1.50

I know I am farsighted and I have astigmatism in my right eye but I really would like to understand what each number above (especially for my right eye) means.

Cheers guys!

Answers:

The first number in your prescription (+1.25) is your prescription over the whole of your eye. Youe eye isnt strong enought therefore needing more power, hense the plus.

The second number (+0.50) is the prescription over an angle on your eye and the thrid number (85) shows us where that angle is. Like a protractor.

The +1.50 is what you need added to your precription so you are able to read.

Imagine 0.00 as perfect and every + or - 0.25 is a little bit of power. Your prescription isnt major but will need reading glasses.

Hope this helps.

You are what is considered "presbyopic". You need correction for distance and near. The first number is basically your distance spherical correction and the second number is the amount of astigmatism correction you need to balance out the vision in the right eye. The third is called an axis, which is just how your astigmatism must be ground into the lens.

The part that says "add" is the additional amount of correction you need for reading. That +1.50 gets added to the other numbers to give you your total reading correction.

For your right eye:

+1.25 (spherical) means you are somewhat farsighted. A negative number here would indicate nearsightedness.

+0.50 x 85 means that you have some astigmatism, and the axis angle for that correction is 85 degrees.

Add +1.50 means that you have presbyopia, and is your bifocal correction for reading,

Your left eye doesn't have astigmatism, so the middle two numbers are omitted.

There is an explanation in my Source.

O.K,the plus signs indicate that you will see a magnified image and the larger the figure the weaker your eyesight is.the second figure on the the lens marked Right is the cylinder that is to say this is a Curve ground into and at an angle on top of +1.25 figure. This cylinder makes the eye look out of the lens at the angle indicated by the Next figure which is 85 degrees. The add part means that an extra piece of glass or plastic has been added on top of the original prescription i.e. the Right, 1.25.This add part is for the person's reading as it it's usefull to have this to magnify words and television.
Hope this may have helped, and that you could make out what I was trying to say!
