Am I still entitled to free glasses at 17?!

Question: Am I still entitled to free glasses at 17?
A guy in my opticians told me that 16 was the last time I could get my glasses for free (because of the NHS) but I remember reading many times on NHS forms how I'm entitled to so-and-so if I'm under 19 and in full time education. On my opticians website site it says that if under 19 etc I can get a free eye test. But does this mean that regardless I don't get free glasses anymore? Because it's unfair that they didn't tell me this before 16 because my glasses broke yesterday and I'm suddenly told I need to pay for them from now on.

Answers:

You would get them if you are in full time education or claiming job seekers allowance, which you can at 17. If you are working or just living off your parents then you or them will have to pay for them.

I thought the same as you but the NHS is cutting back big time so maybe it has changed. Phone a different opticians and see if they say the same.
