Can I go swimming with my soft lenses (contacts) in?!

Question: Can I go swimming with my soft lenses (contacts) in?
This year I am planning to go to Great Wolf Lodge. I really want to wear my contacts so I can actually SEE where I'm going. I will wear goggles the whole time. (even though I won't go underwater that much) Should I still wear contacts? Is it safe?

Answers:

I have worn contacts to swim in for 40 years both soft and hard and I don't wear goggles unless I'm snorkelling. There is a slightly increased risk of infection so I use dailies when I'm swimming and throw them out at teh end of the day. Contacts do NOT fall out when you swim - this is a myth, i've never lost a set. You may find that the water stings a bit more if it gets in your eyes and the contacts dry a bit more, so take rewetters. I also tend to find bright sunshine more of a problem so I have been known to wear sunglasses swimming but this is partly for migraine as teh water sparkle is an issue. If you don't use dailies then get some for the holiday. I also allow a couple of spare pairs so that if necessary I can change midday but I seldom need to do this. I then give my eyes a break and wear my fortnightlies in teh evening if i'm doing soemthing that I dont' want to use my glasses for. My optician is perfectly happy that I swim in dailies.

Just wear your lenses , dont' worry about goggles and enjoy. I've just looked up the Great Wolf lodge and I'm jealous lol. I love swimming and its one of the main things I have gained from contacts.

If your wearing goggles then im sure you will be fine. =)
