Can each pupil have a different size?!
Question: Can each pupil have a different size?
If they're both the same, then which size is the size they end up being: that of the pupil in the dark, that of the pupil in the light, or an average size in between the two?
Answers:
In a healthy person, both pupils are the same size.... and they respond to LIGHT... so if you cover one eye, and shone a light into the other eye, BOTH PUPILS will CONSTRICT... that's right, even the one that's covered and not getting any light will also constrict. There's no averaging between light and dark...
Both pupils also get smaller when you converge your eyes...eg when you [try to] look at your nose.
Lastly, there are a small % of people who have ANISOCORIA which is NORMAL unequal pupils... one pupil might be bigger than the other... but they BOTH respond equally to light and convergence.
Obviously, if one pupil is different in size to the other, and one doesn't respond to light or convergence, then they have a type of disease and should be checked by an ECP.
i know that when the light setting is chanced you pupils dialate and such.... so they are probably just adjusting.
