what has to happen in order to get lasik surgery?!
Question: What has to happen in order to get lasik surgery?
;-p
Answers:
plenty of contraindications.
1) Rx. only certain Rx's are even do-able in LASIK. nearsighted ones between say -1.00 and -9.00 or so work best. anything over about -9.00 can get dicey, and farsighted Rx's like +7.00 cannot be done
2) corneal thickness. must have enough cornea left after surgery. having a thin cornea is a no-no
3) corneal conditions. keratoconus is probably the biggest, but there are plenty of others...endothelial dystrophy, other inherited corneal diseases, retinal detachment, cataracts, etc etc plenty of these
4) pupil size. HUGE pupils don't do well
there are more.
this is why everyone does a "LASIK CONSULT" first. you have to see if the patient is even a candidate before you start seriously discussing the cost, etc. MANY people think that just any Rx can be done with LASIK, and that is not all all true. a WHOLE BUNCH of Rx's cannot be done with LASIK. the consult is not just where they tell you how great it is...they rule out/weed out the patients who are not candidates for one reason or another.
one of the most common misconceptions is that presbyopia can be "fixed" with LASIK...and it cannot. you're only 22 so that doesn't apply to you, but i get that question almost every day.
you just have to go in for a consult & see if you're a candidate.
