Will my eyes just keep getting worse?!

Question: Will my eyes just keep getting worse?
My left eye is like -8.00 and my right is -8.50... Are my eyes just going to keep getting worse until I'm blind or something?

I'm 15, and this always has bugged me... Like, I wouldn't mind -2.00 or -3.00 but I cannot see anything. I can't go swimming at pools (yet I'm on the swim team, cause we use googles), etc.

Am I allowed to wear them when having sex?

I'm mainly just worried of my eyes receding until I'm blind... Will they just eventually settle at a certain point? Thanks.

With youth-onset myopia, it's totally normal for your eyes to keep getting worse during adolescence (even after the rest of you stops changing). It can be scary to see the numbers go up every year, but they should stabilize by your early twenties. (I do understand - I was about in the same range as you when I was 15 & am -12 now at 24.)

And no, it doesn't mean you're going to go blind. Contacts are available and can correct vision even at much more nearsighted than that. Now, you *are* at higher risk for retinal detachment and will want to be aware of the symptoms so you can get to a doctor ASAP if it ever happens. But other than that, you should be fine.

As far as...vigorous activities. Yes, you can of course wear glasses during (wear other protection during too, please!). You may find contacts more comfortable though - so you don't have to worry about glasses flying off. :)

Best advice: Find an ophthamologist you trust. Go to them yearly to monitor your eye health even after your prescription stops changing. Tell them you want to know exactly what's going on with your eyes even if it seems routine to them. And be open with them - ask forward questions like "do I need to worry about my sight long-term?". They're in the best position to give you answers about your eyes.

Only your optometrist be able to tell you that for sure. Ask him at your next appointment.
There are a few things that you can do in order to help keep your eyes at their full potential.
-Always wear your glasses (of course, I don't mean while showering, etc. but just don't keep them off for prolonged periods of time)
- Make sure you consume daily vitamins that are good for your eyes (just Google which vitamins your eyes need)
- Don't do anything that would put too much strain on them (don't sit too close to the computer/T.V. - don't look at the computer screen or watch T.V. for too long either, don't read in the dark, etc.)

I'm not too sure what you mean by "Am I allowed to wear them when having sex?" Are you talking about glasses? Sure, why not? If it's a concern for you, go to your optometrist and request contact lenses
