the doctor said my eye vision is -50 for both eyes? is that bad?!

Question: The doctor said my eye vision is -50 for both eyes? is that bad?
i got confused usually whenever i look at glasses they have +1 or so on anything that has a (+) sign. is that bad? what's wrong?

Answers:

The [+] glasses - ready mades are for 'reading' up close. If you have a [-] sign.. then you're myopic (shortsighted) and would need glasses to improve your DISTANCE vision... [your near vision should be fine].

Next the 50 bit... it depends on where the decimal point is... if it's -0.50, then it's only a mild Rx.
But if it's -5.0 then it's pretty bad.

Hold your cell phone at arms length.. can you clearly see the numbers on the keypad? if yes.. then your Rx is -0.50.
If no, then your Rx is -5.00

You're probably talking about Reading Glasses. These are meant to help you see close and that's all. You are Nearsighted and you have a Prescription that will require corrective lenses be made for you. Go see your optometrist and he or she will have their optician help you pick out glasses and put the proper Rx in them so that you can see clearly in the distance.

You can't buy your glasses "off the rack"

Mine are -625 and -650, respectively. So, I'd say your vision isn't bad...but it's all relative.

why if you were at the doctor did you not ask him?
