How is it to have contacts?!

Question: How is it to have contacts?
I'm getting them for my birthday on Thursday. What do I expect during fitting, trial, getting used to it, etc.

Thanks :)

Answers:

the fitting is quite easy. the optician will check your eyes and then put in a trial lens. they will check it for fit by making you put your chin on a rest with your head against a band and then looking at your eye with a microscope. I personally don't like this but it doesn't hurt or anything. they then make you look at a standard eye chart and check what you can and can't see with teh lenses. Pretty much like a normal eye test but without putting different lenses on the test glasses. They may swop the lenses they have used in your eyes for different ones.

You will feel the lenses in your eyes but not really as somethng that hurts. You need to brace yourself for teh finger coming towards your eye as its a bit of a shock first time. Opticians do this so much they forget its new for people adn dont' always warn you. Once the optician is happy they will probably give you trial lenses - this depends a bit on if your perscription is one they have in stock and the optician, it does vary. You will be shown how to put the lenses in and take them out. Sometimes that is done at a second appointment when you go to pick up your lenses. The thing there is to relax and not worry if it takes a while. It takes most people up to a month to get really good at this , but it is like riding a bike, once you've got the hang of it you cna't see why it was ever tricky. There are lots of tips on this in answers - we all develop variations on the method taught to suit ourselves. It wont' be long before you dont' notice they are in your eyes - contacts are really wonderful and any initial issues are well worth it. Good luck.

I personally LOVE contacts! I wear mine all the time (well.... except for sleeping XD).

During fitting, it's hard to do (unless you're used to touching your own eye/getting close without blinking). I had to have my optometrist help me get them in during the fitting.
I don't know what your trial period will be like. I didn't have one. XD
As for getting used to it, it'll be a while before you can wear them all day. You have to start out slow. Wear them for an hour the first few days and when you can stand it, wear them for longer periods of time. Work slowly! Don't try to keep them in past the point where your eyes start getting dry (it only makes it harder to get them out later). I don't suggest sleeping in them (my optometrist actually told me not to). You can in the event of an emergency, but it's not the best...

Good luck and I hope you love them as much as I do!

personal experience!

Well to be honest it's kinda hard to get used to but they're much better than glasses! Putting them in is real easy cuz they'll show you exactly how. You may feel strange touching your eye the first few times but you'll be ok with it pretty quick. :)
One tip: put some lens solution in the lens before putting it in-- it's a bit easier

Worn contacts 3 yrs now :D

at first it's hard to get used to them but after a while they are much better than glasses in my opinion anyway
