Its making me think im not worth anything and i try so so hard at my job i help customers with their shopping to their car , show them where things are , ask if they would like me to carry things for them etc , chat to them.. its making me think its just my looks i hate myself i feel terrible :( any ways i can feel better about myself??? also , does anyone know if there are any advances on lazy eye surgery for adults its ruining my life and making me totally miserable :'(

Answers:

Were you told by a doctor at some point that you can't have surgery to fix your lazy eye?

Because it is VERY rare to not have at least some success with surgery, especially if you do vision therapy first.

Unfortunately, our society is a cosmetic one. And people will look down on you for not looking "normal". It's sad but true! And research studies have actually PROVED that people don't get hired for jobs just because they have an eye turn.

I would recommend finding an optometrist in your area that specializes in strabismus and/or binocular vision. (Not an ophthalmologist ... they only deal with surgery.) With the optometrist, you can get a full work-up and potentially get some vision therapy that may improve the look of your eye turn, depending on what kind you have. And the good news is that vision therapy works at ANY age! Yes, it does work the best when you are young, but studies have shown that adults can improve their lazy eye with therapy.

So check into the optometrist and vision therapy first because that will help to re-train your brain first, because it is your brain that actually "sees" things and puts images together. Your eyes are simply the cameras. So if we can re-train your brain and start to re-train where your eyes like to point, surgery (if it is an option for you) usually is much more successful.

I am an optometry intern.
