What causes that swooshing noise when you close your eyes hard?!

Question: What causes that swooshing noise when you close your eyes hard?
I hear this loud swooshing noise, almost like running water, in my ears if I close my eyes very hard shut..

What causes this sound? Is it a vibration of some kind?

Answers:

extraocular musculature "squeezing" or affecting nerves in your face/head/ears. you should "hear" a similar sound if you clench your teeth

It is your heartbeat. YOu can hear the arteries in your head pumping the blood in and out and it makes a swooshing sound.
You can also hear it when you are underwater.
