Newiris and dilation?!

Question:

Newiris and dilation?

Just wondering... can someone who has had newiris implants have their eyes dilated? If not, then wouldn't it be a stupid thing to do? I mean, you gotta make sure the WHOLE eye is healthy... including the retina and such, and you can't check the whole eye unless it's dilated.

Answers:

Yes this new iris implant has a fixed pupil size and does not allow for dilation/constriction of the pupil. I really do not know much about this lens implant procedure but the new iris implants are not approved by the FDA!.
To consider an iris implant you would need to have a serious problem like aniridia or albinism to take extreme measures like that. Also the iris implant has a fixed size for your pupil, it will not be able change size for focusing and for varying light conditions and this can cause problems and discomfort.
I personally think unless you have a very serious problem with your iris then this procedure just to change the color of your eyes is ridiculous. Color contact lenses would be a better way to go.... cheaper and less complications/risks and if you get bored of them you can just throw them away :)
