It's too late to contact your eye doctor tonight, but I would suggest calling for an appointment sometime tomorrow. Do not assume it's pinkeye...symptoms are similar, but if you aren't having photophobia in light...may not be pinkeye. The fact that it is moving to the other eye...wellllll...might be.

Tonight, use some cold packs to help with the swelling. Sometimes the swelling itself can make your eye feel tender (I had PRK a month ago, injured my eye with a dropper vial...yah...I'm a klutz...and had some mild eyelid swelling...and it did hurt). The cold packs worked for me. A bag of frozen peas or corn (my PRK surgeon told me that) or a wet washcloth in a plastic baggie in the fridge...not freezer.

Take some tylenol or motrin (motrin itself is an antiinflammatory medication, so that can help a little with the swelling also).

If you have artificial tears with NO preservatives...Refresh Plus is what I use...you can use them as much as you need to. They are available in any drug store or pharmacy section. There are other preservative free brands...I was just recommended the Refresh Plus.

If you wear contacts..get them out! Throw them and the case away. If it is pinkeye, it can 'infect' your lens case. The eye doc should recomment this . Also if it is pinkeye, and some other infections, you'll need to get rid of eye makeup.

Keep your eyes closed as much as you need to until you can be seen by your eye doctor for the appropriate treatment.

Call first thing in the morning...get in tomorrow sometime for some treatment so you start feeling better.

Good luck :)
