I'm ordering new contacts online, and had a question about 'diameter'... Does it!

Question:

I'm ordering new contacts online, and had a question about 'diameter'... Does it matter?

My prescription is BC 8.6 DIA 14.2 and PWR -5.25... The contacts I want are 13.8 DIA... Does this really matter if it's the wrong diameter?

Answers:

Hun firstly your contact lens prescription is only for the specific contact lenses that were fit by your eye doctor. That means you must order exact same brand and all the parameters must be the same. All contact lenses fit differently even sometimes when they have the same parameters so the fit must be checked/monitored by a qualified professional.
0.4mm is a significant change in diameter (14.2 to 13.8) and it does matter what the diameter is!!!
When you decrease the diameter with the same base curve you are creating a "flatter" fitting lens. When the lens is fitting flatter it will not stay centered correctly and you may have trouble with your visual acuity, discomfort and even possible damage to your cornea may occur.
When you were fit with contacts the doctor chose that specific type and size based on how they fit to YOUR eyes. It is very important that you continue to wear the exact same type of contact lenses until you are fit with a new kind by your doctor.

So to sum it up: YES it does matter if it is the wrong diameter!
