Question:

Is it a good practice to eye drop once a week as part of eye care..?

esp when I do not produce enough tears except when i have sad dreams?

i wonder if there may be any side effects over the long run?

Answers:

You can use artificial tears (NOT Visine or Clear Eyes) any time and as much as you need. If you are having dry eye symptoms, using them once a week isn't going to do anything.

There are no side effects to using artificial tears. The side effects of dry eyes are blurry vision, irritation, burning, redness which are all signs of dry eyes. If these go away when you use artificial tears, most likely a sign of dry eyes. You might want to address any persistent dry eye symptoms with your eye doctor when you go in for your next exam, or sooner than that time if your symptoms worsen or do not improve.
